Daisy D's Maybe Baby Valentine Collection

Daisy D’s creates a line of products that I recently re-discovered this past Christmas. I was drawn to the way their designs combine updated colorful patterns with a vintage distressed look. I was really excited when I found out that I was going to review their Maybe Baby Valentine Collection and coordinated Chipboard Titles!

This is what I received to review:

Daisy D’s Maybe Baby Valentine Collection
12 pieces of double sided patterned paper
1 set of die cuts 21 x 14” when opened
1 sheet of Cardstock Stickers 10.5 x 7”
1 sheet of Rub On Transfers 10.5 x 7”

in addition:
1 box Daisy D’s Chipboard Titles.

The day I received my box, was like Christmas! My spirits rose with each sheet of patterned paper I pulled out of the package! What the picture on the front of the kit doesn’t show is that each patterned paper has different pattern on the back of it. I happen to love each and every pattern in this set, but if I didn’t, no problem, I could just use the pattern on the reverse side of the sheet because all of the patterns work together!

As I was working on my projects the slogan...”No thinking necessary” went through my mind over and over again. All the items in the Maybe Baby Valentine Collection go together. All the hard work of choosing was done for me, and I got to skip right to the fun part of deciding where to put the individual elements.

Before I go any farther, I want to let you know that though I love the color pink, I usually don't have much occasion to scrap it. I am not a huge romantic either, so this was a chance for me to s-t-r-e-t-c-h my creativity. As you will see, I was so inspired by the materials I had in my hot little hands, that I just couldn't stop creating.

For my first project, I created a mini-album. There were so many papers and embellishments in the kit that I wanted to do more than just layouts with them!

I cut two 6x6” chipboard covers from bulk chipboard, painted the binding side and punched holes for the ribbon binding. I added patterned paper to the front and back covers with Mod Podge. Daisy D’s paper is the perfect weight for altered projects. There is no warping or buckling when applying liquid glue to the surfaces. If you are altering a project, or are interested in experimenting, Daisy D’s patterned paper will not only help you create a beautiful project, but will also allow you to work with ease!

With that done, I needed a title. This was the time to break out Daisy D’s Chipboard Titles from their cute little box, a larger version of the old sweet tarts valentine candy boxes. There is a little window in the front where you can see all those colorful chipboard letters, just waiting for you to take them out to play! My set was called “Say Something.” The 25 individual chipboard letters included in the set spell out “Be Mine, True Love” and “My Valentine.” The letters are already covered in designs that coordinate with the Daisy D’s Maybe Baby Valentine Page Kit. I distressed the edges of my letters with ink and added them to my front cover with a little tacky glue, then added a coat of Mod Podge for durability. I think that this was the quickest album cover I have ever created!

Next came the 12--6 x 6” album pages. I created a pocket on each 2 page spread thinking that it would be nice to be able to put more photos, letters or little valentines in each pocket. After adhering my patterned paper to the cardstock pages, I embellished with Daisy D’s Cardstock Stickers and Die Cuts.

The Die Cuts that are included in the Maybe Baby Valentine Collection fold open to a 21 x 14” sheet with a wonderful assortment of tags, titles, journal blocks and sayings. Each die cut can be easily punched out. I don’t like to see the occasional perforation on the edges of my die cuts, so I just took my scissors and lightly snipped the remaining stubs. A very simple and painless process. The back of the die cuts are decorated with a subtle pattern that coordinates with the paper line. I love this clever feature because the tags are ready to use. I don’t have to cover the backs with cardstock or patterned paper! This feature allows you to complete your projects faster. Thank you Daisy D’s!

The smaller sayings were the perfect size to use as titles on my mini-album pages, and I took some of the larger tags, cut a matt of cardstock, tied them together with a ribbon and put them in the pockets for additional journaling.

My second project was an altered mini file cabinet that I found at a thrift store. The piece measures about 9h x 4w x 4”d. Although I had one more project to do, I did not have to worry about running out of a certain pattern, because all of the patterns work together. What freedom it is to feel this way. If you use this kit, you don’t have to worry about running out of a certain pattern. Just use another one instead! I promise you, it will look great!

For embellishing the cabinet I used the wonderful Daisy D’s Cardstock Stickers that were included in the Maybe Baby Valentine Collection. The stickers are of excellent quality, heavy weight so that they add dimension to your project, and sturdy enough to add a pop dot directly onto the back without matting first! On the 10.5 x 7” sheet you’ll find a variety of colorful coordinated rings, circles and hearts. The designs come nested in each other so that you get a lot of individual stickers on one sheet. My favorite stickers were the hearts and heart outlines. They were so sweet that I couldn’t help using them in every one of my projects. After a coat of Mod Podge to seal and protect the paper, I added antique buttons and lace from my stash.

For fun I created little 3.5 x 3.5” mini file folders to go in the drawers. I cut patterned paper into rectangles and used my corner rounder punch to soften the corners. Because Daisy D’s paper is double sided, the inside and outside of the file folders were both beautiful! The final touch was adding a metal file tab to the top of each of the folders.

Daisy D’s Maybe Baby Valentine Collection is not just for Valentines Day! A boy layout using this paper?! You bet! This layout will show you how versatile the kit is. I had a wonderful picture of Kai, my son with Mickey and Minnie Mouse all dressed up. The red with white dot pattern reminded me of Minnie Mouse, and the colors of the entire set reminded me of Disneyland’s pink castle. Remember, all the patterns work together, all I had to do was arrange the pieces!

I chose two of my most favorite patterns from the kit, cut a 10 x 10” square, and mounted each square on a piece of white cardstock. For contrast, I tore both sides of the remaining 2 x 12” strips and laid them across the opposite patterned paper page to pull the two pages together.

I used metalic acrylic paint to distress the edges of the patterned paper and to soften the bright white edges of the cardstock. After adding my photos, I wanted a contrasting strip on the second page to create a frame and give me a place to put the rub on title. Choosing the paper strip was easy, since everything is color coordinated to go together!

I embellished my page with the included Cardstock Stickers and Rub-On Transfers. Now normally I am not a fan of rub-ons. I have had too many distressing moments with rub-ons that didn’t “on” no matter how hard I rubbed. I was pleased at how easily Daisy D’s Rub-On Transfers worked. I was impressed that the rub ons stayed on the plastic until you are ready to transfer them. A good thing because I re-positioned my titles a few times. I used normal pressure and the included popsicle stick, and was impressed that these striking two tone black and white transfers went on so smoothly. They even worked when applied across uneven layers of paper! The only other thing I did after transferring, was to gently rub the pad of my index finger directly across the transfer to change the grey appearance of the letters to black.

The transfers are the perfect size for titles. I thought that the nine titles or sayings were very versatile, and the bold fonts were designed to complement an endless variety of page designs. In fact, I used every one of them in my projects and cards. A dream come true!
